Spiral Cutterhead for 10" lift-up combination Planer PTX-260 with 55 Carbide Inserts
Woodworkers are currently upgrading their old planers and jointers by retrofitting them with spiral cutterheads, which offer numerous benefits:
• A smoother finish with no tear-out: The spiral cutterhead's knives are slightly angled, producing a shear cut that is much better than a single straight cut. Additionally, the spiral cutterhead planes boards in a staggered pattern, which eliminates tear-out and results in a glossy surface finish on even highly figured hardwood.
• Reduced noise: The spiral cutterhead's staggered knives greatly reduce noise compared to traditional straight knives.
• Longer lifespan: The spiral cutterhead's inserts, which are made of sintered tungsten carbide, are much harder than high-speed steel and can last over 10 times longer. Each insert has four edges, and they are easy to replace.
• Easy to change: The knives are interchangeable and have a precision tolerance of +/-0.0004" or +/-0.01mm. Simply loosen the screw, rotate the knife 90° for a new edge, and tighten the insert in minutes.
• Improved dust extraction: The spiral cutterhead produces thinner and shorter chips, making dust extraction easier.
• Low cost: By producing a smoother finish and reducing or eliminating the need for sanding and sharpening, the spiral cutterhead pays for itself in a short amount of time.
