purchased recently. i received it after ~1month for China. packed well, also got extra knives & screws as spare. the cutterhead is as awesome as they promised. replaced it in a few hours, adjusted the planer / knives. the quality is great, exactly perfect for my metabo machine. absolutely recommended for upgrades!

Installation was easy, but I made it harder than it needed to be. When it was time to put in the new head, I hit the threaded end to align it without putting back the pulley first and I damaged the threads. No big deal though, I sent it to a machining shop nearby and they fixed the threads. After installing it the right way I torqued each knife to spec I tried it and the results were very good, but I had some vert small lines showing. After realigning some of the inserts the boards came out so smooth I understood why people go crazy about these heads. When looking at the boards under light you might see some lines on them but you shouldn’t feel them with your hands. It shouldn’t matter though if you sand your projects, and it is galaxies better than the nicked straight blades I was using (I am kind of lazy about blade changes). I took the same 1/16 passes I usually do and the motor doesn’t seem to be working significantly harder than with the standard head, time will tell if the motor likes the upgrade or not. Noise is reduced but you absolutely will need ear protection anyway. Hard maple usually teared out a lot with the last set of straight blades I had, and the maple test piece came out flawless.

Overall very satisfied, after three years of buying straight knives I feel like this cutterhead is going to save me some money and tearout induced headache.

Updating the cutterhead of my old machine with a Sheartak helical one was the best investment I could have done, it was like a magic rejuvenating cure, working with the machine now is such a treat, the finish is amazingly clean, all former frustration is gone - and my personal highlight: It became whisper quite, I sometimes forget to put my ear protection!
And as a side effect: I got to know my machine much better from the inside.

Installation was a piece of cake but..
The issue was aligning the outfeed table. With the PC 160 JT there is no adjustment for the outfeed table. To align it I had to sand some of the cast aluminum flat.
Once that was done it set up easily and cuts smoothly and leaves a smooth finish.
I am please with the results.
I don't have a bearing puller so, I purchased the extra bearings just in case but I didn't need them. The old bearings came off the old cutter and on the new one very easily.

Works so much better than the stock 2-blade setup. Noticeably quieter. Be careful on the install, the Sheartak Youtube video has some unnecessary steps (removing gearbox), and also doesn't show everything, there is a forum post that that is a bit more comprehensive.

Overall would recommend, excellent surface finish when taking 1/32" cuts on maple. Not sure what max depth of cut would be with this compared to HSS knives setup.

Excellent tested on white oak and superior to the hss blades. Much quieter

Hello colleagues
The discussion about whether or not to buy a spiral shaft is already several years old. Fake shafts, which only have split blades but are not mounted at an angle to the running direction, are flooding the market. Shafts where you have to file away a piece of the housing also seem normal.
Here, however, we have a genuine spiral cutterhead as the inventors at Felder and other companies thought of the principle. 14 degree angled blades that make a pulling cut possible and a shaft that has been designed in such a way that it can be easily installed without manipulating the housing. The shaft runs 5 decibels quieter and with a much more pleasant sound than before. The cutting pattern of the planed surface is almost perfect and no longer needs to be sanded.
The shaft has 40 knives, which is roughly the same as the cutting edge of the original shaft. Perhaps 52 knives would have produced an even better surface and Mike, who does a wonderful job of support, is thinking about offering a shaft with 52 knives as an option.
I am very happy with the shaft and can recommend it without reservation.

I bought it from France and received it very quickly, with excellent packaging. Installation was pretty easy.
It's simply smoother, quieter, and has a much better finish—truly a night and day difference compared to my old cutterhead.
I should have bought it sooner! It's pricey, but definitely worth it.

Got the helical head for my Delta jointer. Great quality, easy to install and gives a great finish right out of the box! Very happy

Received in a timely manner. very well packed. Installation was relatively painless. Did have to take table off of the legs as bearings were held down with studs and not bolts. Simple job, loosen nuts then unscrew studs. Made one mistake putting on bearing holders as it's difficult pulling bearing and block out for proper spacing w/o removing carbide bits. I'd install spacers between cutter body and bearing next timd to ensure proper spacing. Be aware that the head has to be centered with the table or it will jamb on the table frame.
Replaced belt at the same time as I had it all apart (A-42)
It's a little noisier than before, but does a very fine job no matter which way the grain is going, even over knots. Noticed very minimal tearout on spruce boards. Haven't had a chance to try it out on more exotic woods yet.

Quality of manufacturing seams to be excellent. Packaging was superb. Just ran a ton of maple with no issues, smooth as can be with virtually no tear out. Nice that they come with a few extra knives and a wrench. Bearings and seals fit perfectly also. Purchased another for my 8 inch jointer. Highly recommend these heads, just as nice as byrd but less expensive especially in these times.
